When you have your first child, you spend a lot of time examining features and traits looking for what they inherited from you and what they inherited from your spouse.
The blue eyes on my 15 year old? Those definitely come from my side.
Her need to wear contact lens? That was not a trait she inherited from me– or my husband for that matter. In fact, she is the only one in our family who needs correction for her vision.
What has that meant for me, her mom? It meant when she first got her contact lens I could do nothing to help her learn to wear them. I stood there, awkwardly smiling, trying to reassure her sticking something on her eye would soon be perfectly natural – even though it is an unnatural act. It meant when she needed to take them out, I couldn’t offer her any advice there either. And I still don’t know anything about how she takes care of her contacts. I trust she learned the right way from the doctor.
Not being a contact lens wearer, I also don’t really understand what she means when she says,“After a busy day, my eyes dry and my contacts become bleary and start to slip off my eyes.”
Huh? Slip off your eyes?
She tells me slipping is exactly what happens, so she needs to blink to “reset” them. They also feel dry and itchy, making her rub her eyes. These symptoms are always at the end of the day – not a convenient time for a student who spends late hours at a computer screen or reading a textbook.
If there is something that will make the end of the day more comfortable for her, I want to try it. Being a frugal gal, it should surprise no one the contact lens solution I currently buy for her involves finding a sale and combining it with a coupon. But you also know I’m also a natural girl, so I want anything that works naturally with my daughter’s eyes. Biotrue incorporates a lubricant already found in your eyes and is balanced to match the eye’s pH of healthy tears.
This month we’re participating in the Biotrue Multipurpose Challenge. Starting today, my daughter will be using Biotrue in hopes of relieving the end of the day discomfort. Her greatest hope? She will be able to comfortably watch a late night movie.
