UPDATE: THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED
When the school year starts, do you find yourself pledging to start new habits? Once the kids get back in school, it seems like I make just as many resolutions as I do at New Year’s. For example: Now I have more time to myself, so I resolve to actually get my exercise in each day. Or: This year we will have a set time for doing homework & we will limit the amount of screen time.
Today I have a giveaway for two products that are meant to help you meet one goal: With the start of the school year to have the kids eat right & take care of their oral health.
I make every effort to get my kids a hot, healthy breakfast every school morning. But…..I find I’m only successful about 3 days out of 5. Don’t you ever have those mornings where you just can’t seem to dive in with both feet? On those days, I’m happy my girls can make a hot, healthy breakfast for themselves: Van’s Waffles! Van’s has a waffle for everyone whether you look for organic, whole grain, gluten-free or lite. They also have a new line of Whole Grain English Muffins that go from toaster to table in a jiffy.
No matter if I cook my girls breakfast or not, I do always send them to school with a lunch I make. One of our biggest challenges this year? My youngest is in braces with springs. Has anyone in your family ever had these? I swear in a hundred years, society is going to look back at these springs and think them just as primitive as we find the use of leeches! Her biggest problem with braces has been the amount of food that gets stuck in them. Enter Plackers. Admittedly, these are not the greenest choice we’ve made in our house. However, they truly have been a necessity during this season of my daughter’s life. If I pack her a lunch like the one above, I know the tortillas are going to stick some place. So I pack a Plackers ortho pick. Problem solved.
Today I have a giveaway for one reader:
- A coupon for a free box of Van’s Waffles
- A coupon for a free box of Van’s 8 Whole Grain English Muffins
- A coupon for $1/1 box Van’s Waffles

I always try to make sure the kids and I all have personal Bible time and that we also have Bible and Character Quality time as a family. I also work on their training in keeping their rooms clean and having that done before we start school for the day.
I don’t make resolutions at the beginning of the school year, usually just a general one for the new year.

I love making resolutions. I tried to dial it back for 2012 to actually have a chance of achieving most of them.
I like to start to bring packed lunches to work and drink more water – all of the blog posts on school lunches motivates me!
I also Liked your face book page!
Well…my little one is too small for school. But at the beginning of OTHER people’s school years, I have resolved to spend more time teaching him while he is still little and at home.
It won’t be long before he’s gone to school!
Liked your Greenbacks Facebook page today! Great resource!
And following you on Twitter now!

I resolve to be better at not letting things like mail and paper sit around.
Yeah … you should see the chore list my husband just came up with for my stepson and himself. I told him it looked a little ambitious. I prefer to start small and celebrate small victories but maybe they’ll pull off a chore schedule (both of them!) this year? I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
I used to make resolutions every year, and usually never stuck to them, lol But, since I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 1/2 yrs ago, I feel blessed to have another year of good health whether I make a resolution or not
I liked your page before coming here
I liked you on facebook and am now following you on Twitter. Just found your site…definetley like it!
I don’t make resolutions – New Year’s or new school year. But I am always looking to better our meals and lunches. Right now I’m dealing with school lunches – I pack my 1st graders lunch, and he enjoys it, but he wants to buy because pretty much all the other kids do and I guess he’s starting to get teased about it.
Soon I will have to struggle with daycare food – I have an infant and I send in food for him. But for table food, the daycare provides all the meals (it’s a common ‘perk’ around here – and I hate it). The daycare food, while meeting all the state guidelines (like the public school above), is still full of lots of processed food.
We make resolutions each school year and half of them do not stick longer than a couple months!
I vow to not run late, but it still happens at least once a week! I have been eyeing the Van’s waffles, now that I know you like them I am going to pick some up!

I always try to have things a little more organized to make it easier than the year before. I make resolutions throughout the year like spending more quality time together, getting things done ahead of time, and finding time to make yummy and healthy lunches.

As a teacher I have LOTS of resolutions at the beginning of the school year! One in particular, is to not let myself get so rundown and maintain a healthy diet/routine to avoid my annual winter flu. This year, we have recently attempted a vegan diet, and it is my goal to stick to that, and take lots of vitamins!
