Green Your Beauty Routine: Foods for Healthy Skin

Photo: By gfrphoto

On Friday, I showed you how I was able to add to the stockpile of items that are on my Staples List. My staples list has all the ingredients you need to quickly take you from pantry to meal. BUT, they offer so much more than that! These staples, and the meals made from them, can keep you looking your best because they are packed with the vitamins and essential fatty acids your skin needs! Check out how these foods can give you healthy skin:

Tomatoes – Full of Vitamin A, tomatoes in your diet help to maintain skin cell health. As an added benefit, vitamin A helps with dry skin.

Beans – Beans are not only a great way to get lean protein, but as an added benefit, they have fatty acids that help strengthen your finger nails!

Whole Grains – Whole grains contain CoQ10, a powerful antioxidant. Making sure you’re getting lots of whole grains in your diet means protecting your skin from harmful free radicals.

Nuts – Look for ways to include nuts in your diet. Rich in Vitamin E, nuts help fight free radicals – including those that come from the sun. They also contain essential fatty acids that can fend off blemishes.

Olive Oil – Another great way to get your essential fatty acids.

Water – Not exactly on my staples list, but it is one of the most important parts of a healthy diet. Not only essential for life, water is essential for looking good. Water helps in good blood flow and acts as a keep your immune system healthy. Drinking plenty of water also cleanses the body and helps move impurities out more efficiently. All these add up to healthy, glowing skin.
