Homemade All Natural “Vicks” Vapor Shower Disks

Homemade All Natural Vapor Shower Disks.jpg

I saw a pin for a homemade all natural “Vicks” Vapor Shower Disk months ago. How great an idea is that? The shower disks you see in the store can cost you $7.00 for a package of three. Making them at home can save you a bundle!

Unfortunately, the recipe I found didn’t really seem to work as advertised. The disks didn’t fill the shower with the potent smell needed to open up a stuffy nose.

So, I did a little searching and a whole lot of experimenting and I think I’ve come up with a homemade shower disk that actually works.

There are two essential oils you need:

Eucalyptus Oil – Acts as an expectorant and helps to clear mucus from the respiratory passages.

Peppermint Oil – Contains menthol, a natural anesthetic that dulls pain receptors.

You will need:

In a large bowl stir together the baking soda and the water. The mixture will be very thick.

Transfer mixture to 6 muffin cups. I use silicone muffin cups to be able to easily remove the disk. However, you can use paper lined muffin cups. {You will need to remove the paper before using in the shower.} Bake the disks in a 200 degree oven until dry. This takes 20 – 30 minutes. Alternately, you can have the disks dry overnight.

To use:

Five minutes before you plan to shower, place the disk in the shower. Place it where it will get hit with water but out of the main stream. Add 7 drops eucalyptus oil and 5 drops peppermint oil to the disk. If you do this 5 minutes in advance, the shower will start to fill with the scent before you even set foot in. Shower as usual and enjoy the opening of your nasal passages!

Cold and flu season can make your family miserable. Be prepared! Make up a batch of Hand Sanitizer with All Natural Products [1]. Then, make up these shower disks and a jar of Homemade All Natural Vapor Rub [2].
