How to Sprout Microgreens

Growing microgreen sprouts is an easy DIY indoor gardening project that results in tasty and nutritious home grown food!

I bought my microgreen seed mixes off Amazon. I used a $5 gift card I earned by accumulating Swag Bucks. It only takes 450 swagbucks to get a $5 Amazon gift card. The two packets of seeds only cost $5. So, FREE!

I bought two different packets – a spicy mix and a mild mix. You do not need to purchase special microgreen seeds. You can buy individual seed packets and make your own mix.

The spicy mix is just a mix that includes radish seeds and mustard seeds. You simply are harvesting them when they get to the length in this picture – that is what makes them a microgreen!

Microgreen SproutsThe mild mix is just a mix of swiss chard, beet, cabbage and kohlrabi seeds.

I used organic soil  to plant them in. I got the soil FREE by signing up for The Home Depot newsletters. Over the summer, the garden newsletter had a coupon for one free bag of organic soil. SCORE!

Watch how easy it is to sprout microgreens and have something yummy growing even in the dead of winter.

Microgreens require minimal light to grow. I have mine by a south facing window – but I would say any window but a northfacing one would give enough light. It only takes 21 days for your sprouts to be ready!

I know my berry baskets aren’t very decorative, but it allows me to plant a new crop every week. That way, I always have my sprouts at the ready.

Do you grow microgreens? Any great recipe ideas to share?
