I recently lamented about how retailers are now clearing out the summer stuff to make way for school supplies and it’s only the first week of July! Instead of fighting the retail cycle, I’ve decided to use it to my advantage. I have 7 weeks of summer left – plenty of time to enjoy all my new summer clearance finds!
On a trip to Target this week, I discovered solar path lights have been reduced to one dollar. That’s right. A single greenback! I snatched several of those bad boys up and decided to add some pretty DIY solar lighting to my backyard dining space.
Here’s how this works:
Combine your candlesticks with the solar lighting and this is what you get:
Gorgeous, Yes?
Plus, have you ever left a real candle out in the sun? I have. Guess what? They melt. Not exactly rocket science, yet I still had a “huh” moment when I came out and had to peel wax off everything. I’m not proud of that, but if its ever happened to you, take comfort that you are not alone.
Are you ready to make your own solar candlelight? Here’s the complicated instruction part. Get ready for it.

In case you didn’t know – solar path lights come completely apart. All you need is the top assembly with the solar panel top and the light and battery inside.
Once you’ve taken your solar path light apart, here comes the tricky part.
Step ONE: Take the solar part of the path light and place it on top of the candlestick.
You can handle that can’t you? I knew you could you home improvement project stud! High five!
Not only will these not melt in the sun, they look fabulous in the daylight too!
With the solar path lights priced at only $1, I’m loving that from here on out its FREE SOLAR ENERGY! So, I’m spreading the solar candlelight love around!
When the lights aren’t on my dining table, they are lighting up my potting-bench-turned-serving-bar {project pix to come!}
Yes-sir-ee! I’m planning on getting plenty of use out of my solar path light candles. Because gosh darn it! Despite summer clearance sales, there is still plenty of summer left!
