The only way to know if this is the world’s greatest slow cooker baked apples recipe is to try it!
Baking with small children is a pain.
Before I actually had children, I had this wonderful vision of what my family would look like.
In this fantasy family of mine, we would spend lazy snow days baking batches of warm and delicious homemade cookies.
Fast forward to reality. I quickly discovered baking with small children involves way more clean-up than baking.
Did you know flour + water = glue? That’s a little something you learn when cooking with two small children.
So instead of giving up on my dreams of lazy snow days cooking together, I tweaked them.
Now we make this – the world’s greatest slow cooker baked apples recipe – every snow day. It’s become our family tradition.
When we get the warnings a big snow is coming, I don’t run to the store for milk and bread. No, my snow day staples are apples and vanilla ice cream.
Apples and nuts are sweetened with maple syrup and seasoned with cinnamon and ginger. It’s a wholesome sweet treat with nutritional value.
But best of all? It does not make a complete mess of your kitchen.
Little hands are just the right size for stuffing sweet cranberries and crunchy nuts down into the cored center of a crispy apple.
Now that honeycrisp apples are so readily available, that is my variety of choice for making these slow cooker baked apples.
The next time the weatherman warns you of impending snow, add apples, nuts, Craisins, and vanilla ice cream to your shopping list.
Nothing makes you feel cozier than the smells of cinnamon, ginger and apples slow cooking!
